The Space Architecture Technical Committee (SATC) is the first formal organization of space architects and industrial designers in the world. It is a long standing and highly international committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The SATC organizes space architecture sessions at international space conferences, advises on the skills required to work in the space architecture field, promotes research on space architecture topics, assists researchers, industry experts and students with space architecture projects and provides liaison between aerospace engineering, architecture and industrial design disciplines.

Instructions to become a SATC member
Persons interested in becoming a member of the AIAA / Space Architecture Technical Committee must do the following:

Join the AIAA. An online form is available here. Once the application process has been completed, an AIAA membership number will be issued to the applicant.

Obtain a nomination for Technical Committee (TC) membership here. You may nominate yourself. Select “Space Architecture Technical Committee” from the drop-down list.

Attend at least two Space Architecture Technical Committee (SATC) meetings per year for Regular members, or one SATC meeting per year for International members. Associate members need not commit to a yearly attendance, but are encouraged to participate when able.
All interested persons are encouraged to participate. New members will periodically be added as AIAA and SATC membership processes are completed.
“Regular Members” are US citizen professionals. “International Members” are non US citizen professionals. Persons may become Regular or International members if they 1) have achieved appropriate educational or professional qualifications in their respective fields, 2) have sufficient work experience in their respective fields to enable them to participate knowledgeably in TC business, and 3) have had their work subject to peer review and publication in TC-sponsored forums. Regular and International member nomination requirements can be found on the AIAA website.
“Associate Members” are defined as young professionals, or interested persons who 1) lack educational / professional / work experience, 2) have not published or participated in a TC-sponsored peer review process, or 3) are unable to attend one TC meeting a year.
