Obituary
We regret that Thomas Dubbink and his friend Mareike Peil were killed by a drunk driver in March 2002. Thomas had just submitted his paper on the architecture of Martian bases earlier that day.
From Professor Alan J. Brookes at the Technical University of Delft:
Thomas was a great student and I know you would have enjoyed meeting him and seeing the results of his graduate programme for which I was his mentor. His death is a great loss to the school and to the architectural profession.
From Marc Cohen, Chairman of the AeroSpace Architecture Subcommittee, Design Engineering Technical Committee, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics:
I am deeply saddened to receive word of Thomas's passing. I have been corresponding with him for almost two years. He sent me his thesis last year, and just a few days ago I received his first draft paper for the International Conference on Environmental Systems ...
One option for a memorial that comes quickly to mind is to post his thesis and paper in pdf format to our AeroSpace Architecture website, which we intend to maintain as a permanent on-line archive: http://www.spacearchitect.org/ .
You have my most heartfelt condolences on the loss of a truly outstanding student and promising architect.
