BACKGROUND

Kim Kyunghwan studied environmental design in 2008 in South Korea. After his professional experience of terrestrial contemporary architecture in Seoul until 2012, he is an architect in France. Furthermore, he does also space architectural research principally in auto-construction by using ISRU(In-Situ Resource Utilization) on the Moon and Mars. His intention for his projects is to find solutions to current terrestrial problems, such as climate change, population growth, but also to offer maximum habitability and sustainability in abandoned areas in our city and extreme environment on Earth. He believes that this research and technologies can be appreciated in space or vice versa. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdhJQe0m5j8&t=44s  )

Kim has many different experiences for designing human living space, for example, furniture design, interior, ship design, public buildings, residence and even human settlement on the Moon.

Kim received the 1st prize at the ‘NewSpace2060 International Moon Pitch Competition’ for his lunar base design in 2018 in Los Angeles, USA. The project showed a robotic construction on the Lunar surface for an auto-sustainable habitat which use micro-algae for the closed-loop life support system.
Here is an auto-sustainable habitat on the Moon that he proposed in 2018.
